This is the Prototype Racing Lotus Exige, equipped with a 240 HP Honda
K20A engine and 6 speed LSD trans. The additional 20 HP was obtained
by re-mapping the ECU. Further development of the intake and exhaust
systems, as well as more ECU work will result in even more HP without
any internal engine modification. Click HERE
for K20A engine specs.
My European distributor and I drove the Exige on the ALMS circuit at the California Speedway on Sept. 22, and the power delivery of this engine is nothing short of fantastic. Excellent Torque is there everywhere in the rev range, the transition into VTEC is nearly seamless, and I found myself going 240 KPH (149 MPH) just prior to entering the chicane they included in the 17 degree banked oval portion of the course. An F355 Ferrari was only able to manage 210 KPH (130 MPH) on the same section of the course. The car's wet weight with 25 litres of fuel is 750 Kg, front=295 Kg (39.3%) rear=455 Kg (60.7%). |

I'm
pleased with the car's handling and performance, but the original brakes
are far from adequate, so I'll be developing a much more confidence
inspiring braking system very soon. Dynamometer testing will begin later
this week, and the resulting graphs will be published here. We're hoping
to have this conversion kit available by the first of March, 2003. Below
are more pictures of the engine installation.
